Co-Occurring Disorders Concentration (LADC and LPC/C)
The Co-Occurring Disorders Concentration (CODCO) allows you to concurrently enroll in coursework in the concentration (12 additional credits) while completing the 48-credits of coursework in the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program. These 60 total credits fully meet the degree program requirements in Minnesota for both licenses as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and Licensed Professional Counselor/Clinical Counselor (LPC/LPCC).
The Co-Occurring Disorders Concentration features a multi-theoretical emphasis on evidence-based practices and addresses the emerging area of “process addictions” such as pathological gambling and excessive internet behaviors. The concentration also infuses multicultural aspects of substance use throughout its curriculum.
There is evidence of heightened employability of master’s-level graduates with a Co-Occurring Disorders Concentration that enables dual licensure as an LPCC and LADC (now both administered by the Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy). There are strong initiatives both statewide and nationally to enhance the coverage of addictive disorders, which are comorbid with mental health issues to a high degree.
