Triple Tommie with degrees in education, social work and counseling psychology

PsyD Candidate Kasim Abdur Razzaq to Speak at 2022 Graduate Commencement

A triple Tommie will speak at this year’s graduate commencement.

Doctorate in Counseling Psychology candidate Kasim Abdur Razzaq will deliver a speech during a ceremony at which he will receive his third degree from the University of St. Thomas. Previously, Kasim earned his MA in Teacher Prep K-12 from the School of Education and his Master of Social Work from the School of Social Work.

Kasim’s professors remember him for his quiet nature paired with his intense and passionate desire to achieve justice. Social work faculty recall his empathic way of connecting with clients and families during his field placements.

“He has an engaging manner that draws clients towards him,” said George Baboila, co-director of the Interprofessional Center for Counseling and Legal Services, conveying the sentiments of many social work faculty members. “His attention to diversity, equity and inclusion allows for a strong connection to various backgrounds. He is an effective and dynamic group facilitator.”

Faculty in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology shared similar reflections working with Kasim.

“Kasim is sharp, conscientious, and authentic – a gift to our profession,” said Dr. Bryana French, associate professor in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology. “He has a clear passion for serving Black communities and meeting a substantial need for more Black, male psychologists. I am thrilled his work is being recognized.”

This will not be Kasim’s first time speaking to a large audience at St. Thomas. He was also a presenter at the first University of St. Thomas-hosted TEDx in 2014, during which he gave a speech on educational justice.

Kasim will speak during the graduate ceremony on Sunday, May 22. You can visit the University of St. Thomas 2022 commencement page to learn more about the ceremonies.
